Raw Data

After class tonight, I have realized that I will use field notes as my main data collection and inductive analysis. The activity in class, actually taking field notes and putting them into categories, was very helpful. Now that I will rely mostly on my field notes, I need to make sure that I am taking them often and going back soon after taking them and creating thick descriptions. (which is much more clear after class tonight as well) I haven't been paying enough attention to setting features. I also wasn't being descriptive enough in my thick descriptions.

  1. I am always going to be relying heavily on my field notes as my main data collection. I agree that after class last week it seemed much more clear as to coding our research. I like your example of your field notes. I am still having such a hard time taking notes as I am teaching. I have gotten better, but still not doing great at it. I really like that you have included notes to yourself and asked questions. I think this is a great idea to help you remember things you were noticing or thinking at that exact moment. I have not been doing that...I am taking notes, but not necessarily writing myself questions to consider later. I am going to try to do this during my groups. What a great way to ensure you aren't forget anything!

  2. It is good that you are evaluating yourself on the observational data you are gathering. I have been doing the same thing with my data collection. I am thinking of this as one big learning process and that everything will turn out fine as long as I keep adjusting my strategies to what I learn. Keep up the good work!
